AODA Accessibility Policy

As part of Beacon Utility Contractors’ ongoing commitment to providing excellent service to our clients, we have set the goal of creating an environment that is inclusive to all members of our community. Beacon Utility has a focus on identifying, removing, and preventing barriers for persons with disabilities and ensures our company policies, practices and procedures comply with the Accessibility for Ontarians with Disabilities Act, 2005 (AODA) and the Integrated Accessibility Standards Regulation (IASR). Beacon Utility’s AODA Accessibility Policy and Procedures are reviewed annually in our effort to increase accessibility for persons with disabilities. Our policy can be found below.

Accessibility for Ontarians with Disabilities Act (AODA) Accessibility Policy

The Accessibility for Ontarians with Disabilities Act, 2005 (AODA), and under it the Integrated Accessibility Standards Regulation O. Reg. 191/11 (IASR), are laws that set out processes for developing and enforcing accessibility standards. Persons with disabilities and industry representatives work together with the government to develop the standards.

Beacon Utility Contractors Ltd. is integrating the AODA Accessibility Standard into our workplaces to enhance our commitment to showing respect, understanding, and tolerance towards all customers and employees. Beacon Utility Contractors Ltd. are committed to meeting the accessibility needs of persons with disabilities in a timely manner.

Application and Scope

This Policy applies to all of our employees, agents and contractors who engage with the public on our behalf.

Providing Goods and Services to Ontarians with Disabilities

Beacon Utility has a focus on identifying, removing, and preventing barriers for persons with disabilities and ensures our company policies, practices and procedures comply with the AODA and the IASR. Beacon Utility’s AODA Accessibility Policy and Procedures are reviewed annually in our effort to increase accessibility for persons with disabilities.

Communications

Beacon Utility will ensure effective communication through various means with any persons with disabilities. Beacon’s published content meets and shall continue to meet the requirements of the AODA thereby ensuring that our published content is accessible to persons with disabilities. Beacon has and will continue to take appropriate steps to make sure that our websites and web content conform, where practicable, to the World Wide Web Consortium Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (“WCAG”). Beacon is committed to ensuring that all of its web content will conform to WCAG 2.0 Level AA.

Assistive Devices

In our workplaces, we welcome the use of assistive devices by persons with disabilities in order to obtain, use or benefit from our goods and services. Examples of assistive devices include, but are not limited to:

• Walkers
• Canes
• Crutches
• Wheelchairs
• Oxygen tanks
• Service Animals

We welcome people with disabilities and their service animals. An animal is a “Service Animal” if it is readily apparent that the animal is used by the person for reasons relating to disability, or if the person has a letter from a physician verifying that the animal is required for reasons relating to disability. Examples of a Service Animal are, but not limited to:

• Guide dogs
• Autism service dogs
• Mobility animals
• Seizure alert animals

People with disabilities may bring their Service Animals into the Beacon Head Office at 270 Rodinea Rd.

Notice of Temporary Disruption

In the event of a planned or unexpected disruption to services or facilities for customers with disabilities, Beacon will notify visitors promptly with a clearly posted notice. The notice will include information about the reason for the disruption, its anticipated duration and a description of available alternative facilities or services, if any.

Accessibility Training

All Beacon employees shall receive AODA Accessibility training. Training topics will include:

• Review of the purposes of the AODA and requirements of the Customer Service Standard within the IASR
• Instruction on how to interact and communicate with people with disabilities
• Instruction on how to interact with people with disabilities who use assistive devices or require the assistance of a
Service Animal or a Support Person
• Instruction on how to use equipment or devices available at the premise or that is provided otherwise, that may help
people with disabilities access our services

Feedback Process

Comments and feedback about the delivery of services to persons with disabilities are welcome and encouraged, as it may help us identify areas that require change and assist in Beacon’s continuous improvement. Your feedback will be addressed immediately, although some responses may require a more in-depth review.

Availability of AODA Documents

We will provide AODA-related documents upon request. In the event that we are required to provide a copy of an AODA-related document to a person with a disability, then we will do so in a format that takes into account the person’s disability.
